Ted Cruz turns fire on Marco Rubio in Iowa
DES MOINES - Ted Cruz has unleashed a wave of attacks against Marco Rubio, trying to blunt any momentum Rubio may have headed into the caucuses.
Cruz's allies this week began running two attack ads against the Florida Republican. One is focused on Rubio's work with the immigration Gang of 8. The second, which surfaced Friday, calls Rubio the "Republican Barack Obama."
Rubio, who is behind Cruz and Donald Trump in polls, sought Saturday to raise money off the assault.
"Ted Cruz and his allies are training all their attention on me in Iowa — after Thursday's debate, they know our campaign has momentum, and cheap, dishonest attacks are the only way they know to take me on," Rubio said i a fundraising appeal. "They’re joining up with the tens of millions in attacks we’ve already seen from the Republican Establishment. We MUST be able to fight back. But I can’t without your help."
The Republican Establishment is a reference to Jeb Bush, whose super PAC has been bllistering Rubio with ads, also focused on immigration.
