The next big thing: 50 Florida counties start early voting Monday
It's Week 3 of Florida's five-week voting cycle.
Fifty of the state's 67 counties will open early voting centers on Monday as the pace of political activity intensifies across the state. This is the first presidential election since the Florida Legislature rewrote the law in 2013 and expanded the maximum days, hours and locations of early voting after a furor in the 2012 election. (A bit of history: Lawmakers didn't pass the early voting fix until the last day of the 2013 session).
In addition, voting by mail in Florida is now more popular than ever, so the long lines that plagued early voting four years ago are not expected this time. Early voting sites include a shopping mall in Sarasota, the South Florida Fairgrounds in West Palm Beach, a volunteer fir estation in Madison and a high school gynmasium in Merritt Island.
