Top Fla fundraiser urges Republicans to support gun control measures
Uber GOP fundraiser Al Hoffman of North Palm Beach, the former Republican National Committee Finance Director and ambassador to Portugal, is calling on House Speaker John Boehner and assorted other prominent Republicans to take a "reasonable" gun control measures. In a letter to Boehner and to his U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, Hoffman decries the talk of a filibuster to halt any gun control votes. Others cc'd include Sens. Rob Portman, John Cornyn, Rand Paul, Lindsay Graham, Mitch McConnell, Susan Collins, U.S. Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart and Vern Buchanan, as well as RNC chairman Reince Priebus of Jeb Bush.
Dear Speaker Boehner,
I would like to bring your immediate attention the need for reasonable gun control legislation.
It is quite clear to me that the majority of Americans are strongly in favor of some kind of gun legislation regarding background checks, gun magazine capacity, gun registration, and other important measures. I am writing to implore you to negotiate the issues with Congress in good faith to arrive at some kind of solution. The notion of a filibuster to defeat these issues is abhorrent to me, as it does little to eliminate political wrangling but does much to vest unnatural power to the gun lobbyists, Wayne LaPierre, and the NRA.
Please take a stand for reason and right without compromising true Republican principles.
Very truly yours,
Alfred Hoffman Jr.
