Trump and Cruz in tight Iowa battle with Rubio trailing in third
With less than a week to go, Donald Trump maintains a lead in Iowa, followed closely by Ted Cruz while Marco Rubio is a distant third, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.
Trump gets 31 percent of likely GOP caucus participants. Cruz gets 29 and Rubio 13. No other candidate gets above 7 percent, the poll shows.
“Despite Sarah Palin’s endorsement of Donald Trump and Gov. Terry Branstad’s criticism of Sen. Ted Cruz, and despite – or because of – Sen. Cruz’ ‘New York values’ comments, the Iowa Republican Caucus remains too close to call,” said pollster Peter A. Brown. “One week before the caucuses gather, the question is which candidate has the best field organization. If the events of the last two weeks haven’t moved the needle, one wonders what would change it in the next six days.”
Ben Carson is at 7 percent and Jeb Bush 4 percent.
Bush is campaigning today in Nevada, though will barnstorm Iowa on Friday and Saturday.
