Two property tax amendments pass on ballot

Medical marijuana passed and a utility-funded solar power amendment failed. But two other items were on Floridians ballots Tuesday.

Voters approved both of them, which were property tax-related amendments to the state Constitution.

Amendment 3 creates a tax exemption for firefighters, law enforcement and correctional officers disabled after being injured in the line of duty.

Amendment 5 allows cities and counties to extend a tax exemption for low-income seniors if the value of their home grows beyond the $250,000 cap already on the books.

There was no Amendment 4 on the ballot, as it was approved by voters in the August primary election.

It takes a 60 percent vote to amend the state Constitution.
