The Florida Democratic Party is paying for a new ad airing today in Pinellas County aimed at reminding Democratic-leaning St. Petersburg that incumbent Mayor Rick Kriseman is a loyal Democrat and his leading challenger, Rick Baker, a loyal Republican.

"Rick Baker is on the extreme team - siding with climate change deniers, silent on Donald Trump's countless discriminatory policies," says the female narrator, over images depicting Baker on a baseball team with Trump, Rick Scott and Mitt Romney.

"Baker is weak. And out of touch with our values. But Mayor Rick Kriseman has taken strong stands, working with President Obama and Joe Biden. Taking action on climate change. Working with Charlie Crist to stop offshore drilling. Kriseman, moving St. Pete forward."

The race is officially nonpartisan, though the city elections have become increasingly partisan in recent years.

"Republican Rick Baker is happy to take big checks from right-wing conservatives and Trump Republicans, but doesn't want to talk about whether or not he supports the Trump agenda. Mayor Rick Kriseman, on the other hand, has been clear about his support and partnership with the former Obama administration as well as his firm opposition to Donald Trump's harmful GOP policies. Since Rick Baker insists on misleading voters about his Republican ties, the Florida Democratic Party's new ad will let voters know where he really stands," said Florida Democratic Party spokeswoman Johanna Cervone.
