Traveling to Donald Trump’s inauguration -- on Metro platforms and early-morning streets near the Capitol -- the Tampa Bay Times buttonholed Trump supporters to ask them about their expectations for the new president and what they most wanted to see him do. Here’s a sampling of their thoughts:

Kyle Bryant, 18, and Andrew Fleishell, 17, of Sykesville, Md.

Why did you come?

Bryant: “We've been supportive of him and wanted to see him at a rally but weren't able to.”.

What are your expectations for his presidency?

Bryant: “I really like how he will bring jobs back. He's going to secure the border  I like how he will change the tone to be more straightforward and tell it how it is.”

Fleishell: “I also like that he is bringing jobs back to America, even though he is not even in office yet.”

Do you think he will actually build a wall?

Bryant: “Think he will really focus on this during his first year.”

What do you think of his tweeting?

Bryant: “I like it. It's a way to bypass the media and talk to supporters without having it filtered.”

What advice would you give him?

Bryant: “I would tell him to ease off the attacks on people. I think he should step back a bit from that.”

Debbie Turner of Nashville, Tenn.

“I hope he is a lot better than the last president. His heart is in the right place. His vision is in the right place. He has a vision for the American people.”

Do you think he will ‘drain the swamp’?

“I don't know. He wants to do it. Whether he will be able to is another thing.”

Will he build the wall?

“I think he will build something. Not sure what. But either way, the border will be more secure.”

What do you think of his tweeting?

“I have mixed feelings. I sometimes wish he wouldn't be so petty. But at least you can't twist his words to say he meant something else.”

What advice would you give him?

“Surround yourself with the best people and listen to what they say.”

Ashley Zielny of Hennessey, Okla.

What do you hope his priorities will be?

“Health care. I am in the health care business. It's not affordable and there are too many restrictions.”

Will he drain the swamp?

“Not realistically. Maybe some, but not all.”

Do you think he will build the wall?

“I don't think he will build a wall, but there will be more restrictions.”

What do you think of his tweeting?

“It's the way it is today in society, with social media.”

Tammy Mathews, Williston, Fla.

What do you think of his tweeting?

“I like that you can hear it straight from him, without spin. If you get it from the media, there's spin.”

Vikki Vellucci, Clearwater

What would you say he should focus on?

“I want him first to get rid of Obamacare and get a better health care system that doesn't penalize you for not having health care and encourages saving for your health care needs.

“I would also like to see him secure the border and enforce the immigration laws to keep us safe. Safety is the No. 1 concern.

“And I would like the other countries we protect to pay us today's prices, not yesterday's. We are putting soldiers on their front lines.”

Lynne Langjahr, Newport Beach, Calif.

What are you expecting from the new president?

“I am expecting a booming economy, and hopefully the stock market will respond accordingly.”

Do you think he will build the wall?

“I expect him to build the wall.”

What do you think of his tweeting?

“I think he needs to keep on tweeting because it's a way to get his message out.”

Sheila Phipps, Salem, VA.

What do you most want to see from the new president?

“Obamacare. There are aspects that are decent, but the rates employers are having to pay are going up so much.”

What do you think of his tweeting?

“I like it.”

Do you think he will build the wall?

“He will. And I want him to. People will be coming into the country legally now.”

What advice would you give him?

“He should stand strong. Just maybe not talk off the cuff so much.”

Stacey Campfield, Knoxville, Tenn.

What are your expectations?

“I expect a whole bunch of executive orders reversing things Obama did.”

What would you like to see?

“I want to see work done on immigration. And a good supreme Court justice. If he does that, everything else is gravy.”

What do you think of his tweeting?

“I think it's the best way he has to bypass the media. He can present his message without it being twisted.”
