Was Rubio's Mid East trip a waste of money? No, he tells constituent
A man named George from Sarasota sent Sen. Marco Rubio an e-mail calling the lawmaker's trip to Jordan and Israel a waste of money and asking why he was not in Florida instead. Rubio responded by video, as part of his mail bag series.
“The United States government gives millions of dollars in aid, both military and non-military, to Israel, Jordan and other countries in the region As someone who sits on committees who have jurisdiction over that, I think it is important that I be well informed, as your representative, because these are your tax dollars that are being spent overseas. Now, I could read about it in a magazine, or I could get briefings from so-called experts, or I could watch documentaries on television, or I could read a book about it. Or, I could go and see it for myself. So when you talk about the hundreds of millions dollars the U.S. has invested in the region with the Palestinian Authority on security, with Israelis on military and economic issues, and with the Jordanians and our partnership with them, don’t you want your U.S. senator to be someone who is well informed and holding accountable how that money is being spent?”
