Welcome to the flip-flop immigration club, Gov. Scott
Gov. Rick Scott campaigned in 2010 on Arizona-style immigration laws so it seemed logical that he would oppose in-state tuition for children of illegal immigrants. But Democrats lacked hard evidence. Until now.
In a 2011 interview with NewsMax, unearthed today by the Florida Democratic Party, Scott says: "With regard to in-state tuition for illegal immigrants, I completely oppose it.” It's a direct contradiction to what Scott insisted a few days ago, saying, "I haven't changed my mind at all."
With that, Scott joins an elite club that includes Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio. The Crist campaign pounced today and suggested Crist may explain his change of heart as an evolution. "It’s one thing to evolve on an issue — and it’s great that Rick Scott evolved on the Dreamers Bill," spokesman Kevin Cate told reporters in an email. "But what’s not okay is that he, once again, lied to your face about it repeatedly. And again yesterday."
