Where the money comes from in Fla House Dist 36
In any political campaign you'd certainly rather be the candidate swimming in money than the candidate complaining about the other guy's money. But given the shadow of Mike Fasano in the special election for Fasano's old House District 36 ("I would ask them to put the people of Pasco first and not the special interest of Tallahassee and the leadership of their respective party," Fasano said of the candidates this week) Republican nominee Bill Gunter seems almost certain to be on the defensive over the source of his campaign money.
Consider that just 5 percent of Gunter's contributions came from Pasco County, while 38 percent of Democrat Amanda Murphy's money comes from Pasco. Gunter raised nearly three times as much money from Tallahassee as Murphy, and a whopping 95 percent of his contributions came from maxed out donors - a sure sign of donors tapped by party leaders. Less than half of Murphy's money came from maxed out donors.
