Winner and loser of the week in Fla politics
Winner of the week: No on 2. The group opposing the November ballot initiative to approve medical marijuana got a boost with a $2.5 million donation from casino king Sheldon Adelson. Opponents had been at a substantial financial disadvantage (and polling) but now have skin in the game. Adelson wins, too, as he could be looking to juice casino plans in Florida.
Losers of the week: Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio. Eric Cantor's loss in Virginia may not have had a lot to do with immigration but the defeat yet again illustrated how charged the issue is, and the challenges facing Bush and Rubio. Both have been closely associated with immigration reform as they weigh presidential runs. It could be a problem in a GOP primary.
