Winner and loser of the week in Florida politics
Winner of the week
Curt Clawson. The Republican congressman elected in 2014 to represent Southwest Florida had barely figured out where to find the bathrooms in the Capitol when he announced last week he was calling it quits. The death of his mother had given him a new perspective, he said, sounding like a man with the right priorities.
Loser of the week
Debbie Wasserman Schultz. The South Florida congresswoman and Democratic National Committee chairwoman seems to be doing more to inflame tensions between the Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton wings of her party than smooth them over. Bernie Sanders even endorsed DWS' primary appointment, Tim Canova, reflecting the wideheld perception that the DNC Chairwoman hasn't played it down the middle in the presidential race. "I wish Reince Priebus was my party chair," liberal commentator Van Jones said on CNN last week. "He did a better job of handling the Trump situation than I've seen my party chair handle this situation. I'm ashamed to say that."
