Winner and Loser of the week in Florida politics
Winner of the week
Latham & Watkins. Florida taxpayers would pay the Washington, D.C., law firm $35.9 million between 2015 and 2017 for representing the state in ongoing water wars litigation between Florida and Georgia, according to an analysis by the Florida House that led to the sudden departure of Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Jon Steverson. No wonder Latham boasts of being the highest-grossing law firm on the planet.
Loser of the week
Ports ready to tap Cuba business. As a delegation from Cuba is set to visit Tampa this week, Gov. Rick Scott has warned that he will try to cut state funding for any port that enters into an agreement or tentative agreements with the repressive Cuban regime.
