Winner and losers of the week in Florida politics
Winner of the week
Gwen Graham. With Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum badly damaged by an FBI investigation at his city hall, the daughter of former Florida Sen. Bob Graham is now the clear frontrunner for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. She’s the only Democrat raising decent money, she just won the first labor endorsement, United Steelworkers, and she’s been increasingly vocal taking on controversial GOP policies from repealing the Affordable Care Act to the Trump’s administration seeking state voter data to investigate dubious claims of election fraud.
Losers of the week
James Grant. The Republican state representative from Tampa lost his bid to become Florida House Speaker in the 2022-2024 House term to Rep. Paul Renner, R-Palm Coast. Pat Neal. The Manatee county developer, former legislator, supporter of and fundraiser for Rick Scott has been widely seen as the smartest pick for CFO, but Scott thought otherwise and went with Jimmy Patronis.
