With 50 days to go, all eyes on Florida
With 50 days before Election Day, Florida remains the state to watch. The presidential race is tight and the Senate race will decide if Republicans maintain control on Capitol Hill.
Donald Trump, who is in Fort Myers this afternoon, has a nearly 1 percentage point lead in the state, according to the Real Clear Politics average of polls, which includes a new one today from the New York Times.
Remarkably, the contest is that even despite Hillary Clinton’s overwhelming advantage in organization and TV spending. Democrats like to poke holes in polling but there’s no doubting the enthusiasm Trump is building in his second home state.
Marco Rubio continues to outpace Trump and that’s a good sign for Republicans who need the Florida seat to retain control of the Senate. Rubio is up 6.4 percentage points over Democrat Patrick Murphy, according to Real Clear Politics.
The state has a handful of competitive U.S. House races but Republicans have little worry of losing control.
