A chance is a chance
That last post on TD 9 sent me to my notebooks. I met with former General Telephone boss George Gage a while back during my reporting for the Al Austin piece. Here's what he said: "Not too many towns can attract one of the major political parties. Tampa has been able to develop itself to a point where it could." He also said this: "I think they made a mistake. In the middle of hurricane season, you've asked one of the major parties to have a convention in your territory. If a hurricane comes, it would be a real disaster. You couldn't get people in and out of this area fast enough if you had a hurricane."
