Is Boston still best sports city?

Celtics What is the best sports city in America right now? All depends on your criteria, but Dan Shaughnessy of the Boston Globe wrote a column for Sports Illustrated saying Boston, especially at this very moment, is still the best sports town in the country. He makes a pretty good case. This week, the NBA Celtics and NHL Bruins are both in the playoffs. The Patriots are among the NFL's best teams and the Red Sox, despite being hammered by the Rays in a four-game series, are still among the top teams in baseball. Plus, you had the Boston Marathon, arguably the world's most famous marathon, run on Monday.

Bruins Los Angeles has NBA and NHL teams in the playoffs right now, plus a pretty decentbaseball team. Same with Chicago, Denver and Phoenix, which also has a good NFL team. Philadelphia has three good teams in the Phillies, Eagles and Flyers. Tell you which city is not in the conversation and that's New York. Yes, the Yankees are the defending World Series champs and the Jets had a nice season. But the Giants missed the playoffs, the Mets haven't come close to expectations in the past year or so and the Knicks, Rangers and Islanders all missed the playoffs. And the New Jersey Devils don't count. No one in the five boroughs claims the Devils as their team.
