Erin Andrews' next move
Say what you want about Tampa native and ESPN reporter Erin Andrews taking a spin on ABC's Dancing With The Stars, but it appears to have been a brilliant career move. Andrews, whose contract with ESPN is about to expire, tells USA Today that she has received multiple job offers from both sports and entertainment shows on various networks. Andrews says the number of offers has "just been crazy.''
It has been quite a year for Andrews, who graduated from Bloomingdale High and the University of Florida. She went through the horror of being secretly videotaped while naked through a hotel peephole and having the video splashed on the internet. She went through court proceedings where her stalker, Michael David Barrett, was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail. She then came under some criticism for doing Dancing With The Stars, but there's no question that the second most-watched TV show this season (behind Fox's American Idol) increased Andrews' marketability.
Andrews told USA Today, "It's actually been surprising. I will be honest. I did this show to get happy. I never thought of what it would do for me in my career. It's crazy.''
Andrews contract with ESPN expires July 1 and the network said it wants to retain her. Assuming she is going to hit the jackpot no matter where she goes, you have to wonder what ESPN could offer Andrews beyond what she is already doing, which is mainly serving as a sideline reporter on college sports. Some guess that Andrews might take a step toward entertainment reporting or hosting, but she said, "I definitely know sports is in there, is in the mix.''
