Gruden thinks Tebow could be first-rounder
Former Bucs coach Jon Gruden has advice for any NFL team interested in Gators QB Tim Tebow: you better take him in the first round of the draft. If you don't, someone else is going to take him. Gruden told the Orlando Sentinel: "Somebody with a down-the-road philosophy or vision for him will take him, and take him earlier than some people expect.'' (You can see the whole story here.)
Gruden, who worked out Tebow and several quarterbacks expected to be drafted in Tampa for an ESPN series, said he was impressed by Tebow's talent, intelligence and work ethic. Gruden said Tebow already knew much of the terminology NFL offenses use. Gruden doesn't expect Tebow to start immediately in the NFL, but could be a star after a couple of years of learning from the sidelines.
"Nothing really surprises me other than there are a lot more doubters than maybe I expected,'' Gruden said. "Tim's transition to more of a conventional NFL style has drawn a lot of questions from people, whether he can make the modifications in his passing delivery and adapt to playing under center…He just needs somebody to work with him and tell him what to do and he'll get it done."
