How much do college football coaches make?

urban.USA Today came out with its annual list of major college football coaches' salaries. It listed all the coaches except for 10, most of whom come from private schools that don't have to reveal how much it pay its coaches. Two coaches are making at least $5 million a year. Alabama's Nick Saban makes $5,997,349 and Texas' Mack Brown makes $5,161,500. Two coaches are in the $4 millions: Oklahoma's Bob Stoops at $4,375,00 and Florida's Urban Meyer at $4,010,000. And three coaches are in the $3 millions: LSU's Les Miles ($3,905,000), Ohio State's Jim Tressel ($3,888,389) and Iowa's Kirk Ferentz ($3,781,000). In all, 23 coaches make at least $2 million. However, it should be noted that the contracts of Notre Dame's Brian Kelly and Southern Cal's Lane Kiffin were not available.

Florida State's Jimbo Fisher is listed as making $1,804,000. USF coach Skip Holtz is listed at $1,700,000. And here's an interesting item: Penn State's Joe Paterno, the all-time leader in victories among what is commonly known as Division I-A, has a salary in the lower half of the list at only $1,109,977.
