It stinks to be a sports fan in The District
Not to pile on because Washington, D.C. sports fans are already feeling pretty crummy today, but TheBigLead.com points out that there are 13 cities (or major metropolitan areas) with teams in the four major North American sports leagues and Washington is the only one that hasn't had a team make it to at least the conference finals in the 2000s. And now that the Caps were shockingly bounced from the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs Wednesday night, the decade likely is going to end with the drought intact.
The Redskins haven't been to a conference title game since it won the Super Bowl in 1991. The Caps haven't been to a conference final since getting to the Stanley Cup finals in 1998 when they were swept by the Red Wings. And the Wizards haven't been to the conference finals since 1979 when they were called the Bullets. Lastly, there's the Nationals, which have been among baseball's worst teams since moving to Washington from Montreal in 2005.
The near-by Baltimore Ravens have been to two conference championship games in the 2000s, but that certainly doesn't count to Redskins' fans.
