Jacques Demers hospitalized

Demers There aren't a whole lot of details, but former Lightning GM and coach Jacques Demers is in stable condition after twice undergoing surgery for what is believed to be a stomach ailment. Demers' assistant, Line Tessier, told the Canadian Press that Demers had one surgery last week and another on Monday and that she did know not the length of recovery. Tessier also did not reveal where Demers is being treated, but it likely is in the Ottawa area. Demers, 65, coached four NHL teams in his career, including the Lightning from 1997 to 1999. He made headlines after his coaching career when he admitted in his autobiography that he was functionally illiterate. Demers was appointed to the Canadian Senate last year by Prime Minister Stephen Harper. He also has spent the past several years as a hockey analyst on French-language TV and radio in Quebec. He's one of the good guys, folks, so send your well wishes his way for a speedy recovery.
