Now that's a gator!

The above photo is from the Orlando Sentinel and features the state record in length for an alligator. Tres Ammerman, an Orlando man who traps gators as a hobby, caught the above alligator in Lake Washington in Brevard County on Sunday. The gator measured 14-feet, 3 1/2 inches. The previous record was a 14-foot, 5/8-inch gator from Lake Monroe in Seminole County in 1997. The gator trapped Sunday is the longest in state history, but far from the heaviest. Ammerman's gator weight 654 pounds, but the record is a 1,043-pounder caught in Orange Lake in Alachua County.
