Pena gets how much?

pena. There was some sliver of hope that maybe first baseman Carlos Pena would return to the Rays, but the Cubs ended any hope of that by offering Pena a one-year deal worth $10-million. According to the story in the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs were adamant about giving Pena just a one-year deal. The story went on to say that Pena, who hit only .196 last season with 28 homers and 84 RBIs, will have a year to improve his marketability and then "perhaps hit a bigger payday on the market next year.'' ... Geez, getting $10-mil is not hitting a bigger payday after hitting a buck 96? Actually, the Tribune is right. Seems like $10-million these days really isn't all that much much. But one can't really blame the Rays for not shelling out that kind of dough for someone as inconsistent as Pena has been the past couple of seasons.
