This photo pretty much sums it up
Look, it's understandable that a hockey team long out of the playoff chase has a hard time mustering up the energy to play the last week of a long season. But more than 12,000 fans showed up Tuesday night to watch the Lightning mail it in against Carolina in an 8-5 loss. It was 5-1 after the first period. The only entertaining thing about it was listening to Sun Sports analyst Bobby "The Chief'' Taylor do a slow burn while blurting out things such as "This is an embarrassment.'' In his best moment, Chief jokingly suggested the Lightning rotate its goalies after every goal.
It's stunning how far this team has fallen. At the Olympic break, the Bolts were actually in the playoff race and now they might finish with the second-worst record in the entire NHL. Right now, they're tied for 13th in the 15-team Eastern Conference, just two points ahead of Toronto for last in the East. Edmonton is assured of finishing last overall, but the Lightning has a good shot at second. The only good thing about that is it would approve its odds in the lottery. With such an epic collapse (5-12-1 since the Olympic break) how can anyone argue that GM Brian Lawton and coach Rick Tocchet should be brought back?
