The Red Sox are done ... just about
Maybe because too many of us know the Rays are fully capable of being one-hit in five of the next six games, no one is ready to say the Red Sox are stake-through-the-heart dead in the American League playoff race. But following the Rays' 14-5 thumping of the Sox at Fenway last night, Boston isn't even the next closest team to the Rays in the wild-card chase. That would be the White Sox, who are 7 games behind the Rays. Boston is 7 1/2 out. Put it this way: the sports news in Boston today isn't the Red Sox, but Tom Brady's new contract.
