Red Sox feeling the Rays' pain

sox. They came into the season with high expectations. They came into the season with a couple of new faces in the lineup. Most people picked them to contend for a playoff spot. Yet, here they sit at 0-5. The Tampa Bay Rays? Well, yeah. But, at this particular moment, we're talking about the Boston Red Sox. More shocking that the Rays starting 0-5 is the 0-5 start by the Red Sox, the team most prognosticators picked to win the American League East.

Maybe it is too early to panic. After all, five-game losing streaks is really not that big of a deal. All six division winners from last season had a five-game losing streak at some point. Then again, of the 110 teams in history that have started the season 0-5, only two (the 1974 Pirates and the 1995 Reds) have gone on to make the postseason. We're still willing to wager that the Red Sox have an excellent chance of becoming the third team to pull off such a trick. The Rays? Uh, we're not so sure.
