See, even the players can't stomach the new jersey
This question came up during the "Ask the Announcers'' portion of Wednesday's Rays-Orioles broadcast. A viewer asked announcers Dewayne Staats and Brian Anderson what they thought of the Rays alternate powder blue jersey, which made its debut Sunday against the Yankees. And thank goodness Staats said what everyone else is thinking. But, of course, Staats being a classy guy, he said it in the nicest possible way.
"I like the alternate uniforms to a point, but the uniform change the Rays made initially were a great blend of classic baseball uniforms and great colors,'' Staats said. "And I like the home uniforms and I guess the world is big enough to take the alternate jersey as well.''
Since I wouldn't be so bold to put words in Staats' mouth, I'll just go ahead and say it: I like the new blue jersey's so much that if my toilet backed up and flooded my bathroom floor, I wouldn't hesitate at all to run out to the nearest store, buy a blue jersey and then rush home and use the jersey to soak up all the muck. That's how much I love it.
Staats' sidekick Brian Anderson pointed out the Rays have four jerseys and the new powder blue one, "finishes in a solid fourth place for me.''
