At 1:42 this afternoon, Tiger Woods will make his long-anticipated return to golf ... if it isn't raining. There's a 50 percent chance of rain this afternoon at the Masters, although the weather is supposed to be perfect over the weekend. ESPN has permission from the strict headmasters at the Masters to show Tiger's tee shot and then will return at 4 o'clock with its live coverage for the rest of the afternoon.
So, how will he do? It would not be surprising to see him shoot anywhere between 66 and 79. For the weekend, it wouldn't be a shock to see him miss the cut or win the whole thing. I mention Tiger just so I could bring up that Augusta chairman Billy Payne's criticism of Woods on Wednesday. That drew a wonderfully biting column by New York Times columnist George Vescey and the best Twitter.com line of the day as ESPN New York's Ian O'Connor tweeted: "Billy Payne rips Tiger Woods, and it's always good to see Augusta National, longtime home office of discrimination, as moral compass.”
