Torii Hunter trying to recruit Carl Crawford to Anaheim
And so it begins. Carl Crawford, the Rays leftfielder and impending free agent, is being wooed by another team. In this case, the man doing the sales job is the star of the Anaheim Angels or Los Angeles Angels or the Mighty Angels of Anaheim or whatever they are called this days. Angels star centerfielder Torii Hunter's locker was next to Crawford's locker at the All-Star Game and Hunter began making his pitch to get Crawford to come to Anaheim, according to this post in the Los Angeles Times.
However, Hunter said he efforts are probably in vain because he thinks Crawford might stay in Tampa Bay.
"He's just a good friend -- I just give him good advice,'' Hunter said. "I was a free agent once. I told him to have fun with it. It's like being recruited in high school ... it's not tampering, is it? Not for we players. He's going to make his own decision. He's a grown man. I might make a couple of phone calls here and there. I'm pretty sure he'll stay in Tampa Bay, but he has the right to flirt with other teams.''
Crawford said, "I've been playing eight years, so I know how nice it is (in Anaheim). Torii just kind of reminds me sometimes."
