What almost was
Here's a pretty cool idea from Sports Illustrated: the almost-dynasties. It's a list of the top 10 teams in history which one championship, but could have and probably should have won more. Example: the Atlanta Braves, which won 14 division titles and five pennants from 1991 to 2005, but came away with only one World Series title. Click here to read the interesting list. Here's a team that could have made the list or our suggestion for the "honorable mention'' section: the Tampa Bay Bucs from 1997 to 2007. In that span, they won four division titles, made seven postseason appearances, appeared in two conference championship games, were consistently in the top 10 in defense and came away with only one Super Bowl title. Meantime, the Lightning of the mid 2000s really doesn't fit the parameters of the list, but when you look back at the night the Lightning won the 2004 Stanley Cup with young stars such as Vinny Lecavalier, Brad Richards, Dan Boyle, Marty St. Louis, Ruslan Fedotenko, Pavel Kubina and Cory Sarich, wouldn't you have bet about anything that it would have at least played in another Stanley Cup final or two.
