Tom Jones' 2 cents

Tom Jones has his opinions.

What's worse, vuvezelas or cowbells?

Cowbell If you happened to catch Saturday's Rays-Marlins game on Sun Sports, you heard the buzz-buzz-buzz of vuvuzelas, those bee-sounding horns that have gained popularlity world wide because of the World Cup. Anyone who was at Saturday's game swears it might have been the most painful baseball experience they've ever had. (By the way, there are students at Ohio State who are encouraging fans to bring vuvuzelas to the team's home game next season against Penn State.)

Anyway, that brings us to this letter from a reader named Lawrence Jamieson from Homosassa. Mr. Jamieson writes:

Vuvuzela I see that Joe Maddon complained about the plastic horns issued at the Marlins' game, stating that they should be banned. Good for him. Noisemakers like that really inappropriate at baseball games and are really a bush league distraction from the ballgame itself. Sort of like cowbells, canned cheers, and scoreboards that tell fans when they should clap, make noise, or cheer.

If the Rays do get a new stadium, whether it be in St. Pete or Tampa, I'll be willing to donate my two cents to pay for it as long as cow bells are banned. Vuvuzelas, thundersticks and pennies in milk jugs, too.
