Who is this guy?
How about Carlos Pena? Just as we were getting ready to ask Hank Blalock if his first-baseman's mitt was broken in, Pena has gone on a little tear -- three home runs in two games, including two Tuesday night in the Rays' 9-0 thumping of the Blue Jays. Pena's solo blast broke a scoreless tie in fourth and then his grand slam in the fifth broke the game wide open to put the Rays 5 1/2 games up on the Jays. During Sunday's radio broadcast of the Rays-Rangers game, either Dave Wills or Andy Freed (dang, those two guys DO sound alike sometimes, don't they?) mentioned this three-game series between the Rays and Jays and how a Rays' sweep could be a real kick in the gut to Toronto. Winning the next two games would put the Rays 7 1/2 games up on the Blue Jays. That wouldn't exactly bury the Blue Jays, not with 99 games left for Toronto. But it would make the climb a lot steeper.
