Ex-Gov. Charlie Crist may join St. Joe's board
What can former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist bring to the board of directors of giant Florida landowner St. Joe Co.? We're not sure but Fairholme Capital, the investment fund headed by Bruce Berkowitz and St. Joe’s largest shareholder with about 29 percent of the company, said it will nominate former Crist to the company’s board. That, warbles the Wall Street Journal, "will bring a little political firepower and some very nice hair into the fracas."
What fracas? St. Joe hired Morgan Stanley this week and, among new options under consideration, may put the company up for sale. here's more in a recent column about that and how St. Joe got into this precarious pickle.
Crist was named as an alternative candidate to Rodney Barreto, chairman of Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, according to a regulatory filing, Bloomberg News reports. Barreto may not be considered an independent director because he has provided services to St. Joe., Berkowitz said.
Crist recently joined the "For The People" law firm of Morgan & Morgan.
