Former Checkers CEO Sirois joins Big Boy

Keithsiroischeckersbigboy We knew him when. Former Checkers Drive-In Restaurants CEO Keith Sirois started work today as CEO of Michigan-based Big Boy Restaurants International. The 2004 photo (by Michael Rondou of the St. Petersburg Times) shows Sirois (on right) with Lou Piniella, then manager of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, when Checkers became a sponsor of the Major League Baseball team.

Sirois, 57, is a veteran of the U.S. Naval Security Group and served as an advisory board member at the University of South Florida's Center for Entrepreneurship. According to Big Boy, Sirois and his wife, Kimberly, are relocating from Tampa to the metro Detroit area -- a homecoming for Sirois, who grew up in suburban Wyandotte and has family members in the area.

In November, Crain's Detroit Business reported that Big Boy was searching for a new CEO after the sudden and, by some accounts, acrimonious departure in September of Tony Michaels in September.

In June 2006, a publicly-traded Checkers agreed to be acquired by an affiliate of private-equity firm Wellspring Capital Management LLC for about $189 million.
