Latest bank health ratings: 8 of 46 'zero' star banks in state are in greater Tampa Bay area

10

June

Wake up and good morning. Are the community banks in Florida and the greater Tampa Bay region finally starting to get healthier? Sorry. Does not look that way -- not yet -- based on Bauer Financial's quarterly health review. New numbers are out based on first quarter (ended March 31 of this year) that rank banks from "five stars" (top health) down to "zero stars" (in serious trouble).

The delay in the data stems from Bauer getting its information (then crunching the data) from the FDIC. So far, bank regulators have closed five Florida banks (complete list here), including Cortez Community Bank in Brooksville, shut down in April.

Here's what we found. Of the 46 zero star banks still operating but in the worst health in the state, eight are in the greater Tampa Bay area. Here are those eight as of March 31:

Bank of Commerce: Sarasota, FL

First Commercial Bank of Tampa Bay: Tampa, FL

First Community Bank of America: Pinellas Park, FL (This bank was bought by Community Bank & Co. of Lakewood Ranch last month. Details here.)

First Home Bank: Seminole, FL

Florida Bank: Tampa, FL

Landmark Bank of Florida: Sarasota, FL

Old Harbor Bank: Clearwater, FL

Southshore Community Bank: Apollo Beach, FL
