The Container Store, which will open its store near International Plaza in Tampa in March, ranks among the companies considered tops for employees.

Wake up and good morning. Most of the national "best companies to work for" rankings tend to spotlight big corporations that are based far from Florida. That's easy, since Florida really has no truly big corporations based here. But many of those same top ranked companies do have offices in the Tampa Bay area and, combined, make up a significant piece of our regional economy.

So, based on multiple "Best Employer" rankings, who are these businesses that promise good working opportunities and operate in the Tampa Bay market? Let's explore:

* Out just this week, the first annual list of the best U.S. employers by Payscale and Business Insider evaluates companies by both pay and happiness. Here are some businesses from that list (with their ranking) that are significant employers here: Microsoft (#14); Booz, Allen & Hamilton (#19); Jacobs Engineering (#33); Raytheon (#37), and Duke Energy (#50). Read more about each of these companies here.

* Fortune magazine publishes its "Best Companies To Work For" list annually based on extensive employee surveys. Among those listed that operate in Tampa Bay, with rankings, are: Edward Jones (#8); Robert W. Baird (#14); The Container Store (#16); USAA (#40); Deloitte (#47); Ernst & Young (#57); CarMax (#74); Publix Super Markets (#77); Pricewaterhouse Coopers (#81), and Nordstrom (#88). Read more from Fortune here.

* And Workplace Dynamics has published its list of the top 150 U.S. workplaces that happens to include such locally based firms as Kforce, TECO Energy and Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, and St. Petersburg College. That same list also cites many others with substantial bases in the Tampa Bay region, including: Keller Williams Realty (#9); Toll Brothers (#58), and Cintas (#94). Read the whole list here.

By the way, the Tampa Bay Times has worked with Workplace Dynamics for years in conducting the annual Top Workplaces. Check out who won in the 2012 survey. The 2013 findings will be out this spring.
