Never mind: Texas Republican apologizes to BP for pushy feds, then retracts comments
At the start of the BP oil spill hearing Thursday on Capitol Hill, Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, accused the White House of conducting a "$20 billion shakedown" by requiring oil giant BP to establish what he considered a "slush fund" fund to compensate those hurt by the Gulf Coast oil spill.
Later, after pressure from his own party leadership, he retracted those remarks that included his apology to BP CEO Tony Hayward for the way the oil company has been treated by the U.S. government. Read more here, with video.
