Wake up and good morning. Fifty-one Florida-based banks received a "zero" rating, the lowest possible health rating from zero to 5 "stars" based on their condition at the end of the first quarter. That's according to fresh numbers just out from the Coral Gables financial rating firm Bauer Financial.

Of those 51 zeros -- a rating that these banks are so weak that government intervention is likely in the vast majority of cases -- plenty of individual banks are based in the Tampa Bay area. With the caveat that this list is based on March 31 data, here's a geographic breakdown of 10 of those 51 based nearby :

With 51 most troubled banks, obviously Florida will have a number of failures still to go this year. The Sunshine State only recently passed Illinois as the No. 1 state in 2010  thus far for bank failures, though that premier spot may seesaw for awhile among various states.

If there is a silver lining in all this, it is the fact that only 13 Florida banks are rated "one star" which means there is not a large number of weak banks immediately in the pipeline to swell the number of zero star rated banks in this state.
