Which Florida banks are in weakest shape in the state? Nine are in Tampa Bay area
Wake up and good morning. Troubled banks in Florida are starting to look like some assembly line. As many banks are closed by bank regulators and sold off by the FDIC -- the latest Florida failure of more than two dozen this year being Gulf State Community Bank in Carabelle last month -- it seems another still operating bank falls further into trouble. Bauer Financial released its latest quarterly (as of Sept. 30, 2010) list of Florida banks, rating them from "5 star" (financially strongest) to "zero star" (in deep trouble). Of more than 250 banks rated, 45 of them are zero stars, meaning we are apt to continue to see a vigorous pace of bank closings in this state well into 2011 or beyond. Not all zero-rated banks will fail and be sold to other financial institutions. Some will. Deposits up to $250,000 are insured by the FDIC.
