I heart next-gen graphics

I have a review of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter running next week, and I say in it that while the game is one of the best-looking on the Xbox 360, it isn't quite as amazing as you'd expect in a "next-generation" game.

That's what happens when you play nothing but 360 for two weeks.

I finally got around to The Godfather this weekend (the PS2 version), and boy does it look terrible in comparison. Relatively blocky figures, jagged edges and sparsely detailed backgrounds everywhere. The characters' faces are more-than-passable versions of the actors, but they're frozen in that current-gen kind of way.

Part of this is that Godfather copies Grand Theft Auto so much that it even steals the outdated graphics. And Ghost Recon doesn't have any giant bosses or ultra-detailed vehicles that make you gasp. But there's a sharpness and level of overall detail to the 360 game that the PS2 can't come close to matching. Good stuff.
