DS Lite: Nintendo on a roll

The DS Lite -- a smaller, brighter version of the handheld -- will be released in the U.S. June 11 for $130. That's the same price as the current system, and $30 less than the equivalent price in Japan.

This is a great move by Nintendo. At $160, a lot of people would probably stick with their old DS. But even though it's only a $30 difference, $130 seems like nothing and so a lot of people will upgrade. A lot of the upgraders will give their old DS to a friend or little brother (mine will go to the Tetris-smitten GF), quickly expanding the DS audience (i.e. more people buying games) and giving Nintendo even more targets for its new strategy.

The Wii haters are missing the point: Nintendo is doing everything right and positioning itself to be a major player in the next couple of years.

I may just have to get one. My little brother's B-day is in June. I guess he can have the old one. Question is: Should I reserve one or wait til more colors come out?
