A 9-year-old girl died Saturday night in a Plant City ATV crash.

At about 8 p.m., two girls were riding a Can-Am Commander on a property on the 6000 block of Varn Road in Plant City, according to a news release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

The release described the Commander as "similar to a dune buggy with two bucket seats."

The driver, 11, lost control of the ATV when she tried to turn it around, the release said. The Commander overturned, ejecting the 9-year-old passenger. Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing a seat belt.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to the crash. Authorities took both the passenger and the driver to South Florida Baptist Hospital, where the 9-year-old was pronounced dead, the release said. The driver suffered minor injuries.

The sheriff's office did not name the passenger or the driver.
