A 45-year-old man died while held in jail in Hillsborough County on Saturday, deputies reported.
Mauricio Blanco Jr., 45, "became unresponsive" at the Falkenburg Road Jail just before 6 p.m., according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
According to deputies, responders were called to the facility, and Blanco was stabilized. Authorities then took the man to Brandon Regional Hospital. He was pronounced dead at about 7:20 p.m.
Deputies said the cause of death has not yet been determined, pending an examination by the medical examiner.
Jail records show Blanco had been in jail since November.
He was arrested on Nov. 24 on charges of possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence.
Blanco was awaiting a January hearing for an October arrest for other charges of cannabis possession and driving with a suspended license.
