Joni James
Joni James joined the Times in 2003 as a reporter in Tallahassee, and eventually was named the bureau’s deputy chief. In 2007, she served as the Assistant City Editor in Clearwater. Later that year, she became State Editor. In late 2008, she joined the editorial board as the Deputy Editor.
Prior to the Times, Joni worked for daily newspapers in Winston-Salem, N.C.; Indianapolis; Rochester, N.Y.; and Eugene, Ore. She moved to Florida in 1996 to join the Orlando Sentinel as its higher education reporter. In 1999, she joined the Wall Street Journal as its Florida political reporter and later worked on its travel industry team. Immediately prior to the Times, she was a reporter in the Miami Herald’s Tallahassee bureau and the paper’s interim deputy business editor.
A native of North Carolina, Joni is a 1989 graduate of Wake Forest University.
