Janet Woods is Chief Information Officer for the Times Publishing Co. In this capacity, she is responsible for the Information Technology department, including web development, applications and operations, customer service and support, and a consultancy group that works with departments throughout the company to identify and implement technology solutions to serve and further business objectives.
 
Janet joined the Times in 1965 as a reporter, copy editor and designer, and served as Evening Independent Newsfeatures Editor and weekly columnist for 16 years. She helped guide staffers through the transition from manual typewriters to electric typewriters to computers, and became the Times' and Independent’s first systems editor in 1984. She took early retirement in 1988 to travel, and returned to the Times full-time in 1990. In 1997, she was named News Systems Administrator and in succession became Prepress Applications Administrator, then Customer Service and Operations Manager. She was named Acting CIO in June 2008 and CIO in September.
 
Janet earned an Associate of Arts degree from St. Petersburg Junior College and graduated from Florida Presbyterian College, now Eckerd, in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Creative Writing. In 1979, 1980 and 1981, she won the JCPenney-Missouri Journalism first-place award for sections, Class II circulation, and was retired from competition. She has received awards for writing, editing and design from such professional organizations as the National Newspaper Association and Florida Press Women. She has spoken at numerous professional conferences and at the American Press Institute.
 
In News, Janet was involved with computer system installations beginning in the 1970s. In IT, she served as project manager for three major initiatives: Pad Analysis, News Archiving and Pagination. She was born in Washington, D.C., but has been in Florida long enough to be considered a native. She and her husband, Willard, reside in St. Petersburg.
