Students hired for Times internships are eligible to apply for intern scholarships offered through the Tampa Bay Times Fund.
The scholarships are worth up to $3,500 for returning full-time undergraduates and up to $1,500 for returning full-time graduate students. Applications will be made available to interns during their summer experience at the Times.
Peggy Peterman scholarship for minority students
Peggy Mitchell Peterman was an award-winning reporter, columnist and editorial writer at the St. Petersburg Times (now the Tampa Bay Times) for 31 years. She mentored young journalists at the Times and other newspapers. In 1989, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Black Journalists.
To honor Peggy, the Time is pleased to offer a $5,000 scholarship to an undergraduate or graduate minority who is committed to a career in journalism. The winning student also will spend the summer as one of our news interns.

Don Shortell Scholarship
The Tampa Bay Times is offering a significant financial and professional opportunity for a high-achieving and motivated student interested in using web development skills to help with the production of award-winning journalism.
We invite students to apply for the first Don Shortell Scholarship and Internship. The winner receives a one-time $5,000 scholarship toward their undergraduate or graduate studies and a paid summer internship in web development at the Tampa Bay Times where they will have a chance to learn from professionals, apply their skills and get valuable work experience.
Requirements: Students must be returning to school in the year following their summer internship. Students must accept and complete the internship in order to receive the scholarship. The student must be in good standing at an accredited college or university.
