Question Who should apply?
Answer Sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students interested in careers in the media/news & information. Applicants must have experience at a college publication and at least one professional internship.
Question How do I apply?
Answer Send a cover letter and resume with links to your website (or with links to 5 published clips that show the range of your work) to TBTimesInternship@tampabay.com. If you have questions, contact Roy LeBlanc at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Question Is the internship paid?
Answer Yes. The pay is $450 for a 40-hour week, Monday through Friday. You will not be eligible to receive benefits.
Question How long does an internship run?
Answer Internships run 10-12 weeks, May-August. The News Photo department has 6-month internships - January-June and July-December. See the photo job description for more information. Six-month and year-long internships are determined on an individual basis, depending on needs in the newsroom. Contact Roy LeBlanc, assistant metro editor, at email@example.com for more information. For more information about news photo internships, contact Skip O'Rourke, senior photo editor, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 813-226-3364. A one-year internship is available, with a start date of July. Contact Skip O'Rourke for details.
Question What are the application deadlines?
Answer November 1 for Newsroom positions. If you are seeking a photo internship, you should aim to meet the November 1 deadline. For positions in all other departments, the deadline is February 15. Our internships are competitive so you would be smart to apply well before the deadline.
Question Where are your jobs located?
Answer They are located on the West Coast of Florida / Tampa Bay. Intern reporters typically are placed in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Tampa, Port Richey and Brooksville. Business department internships are typically in the St. Petersburg or Tampa offices.
Question Do I need my own transportation?
Answer You must have a reliable, personal means of transportation that will allow you to travel within the Tampa Bay market as the work requires.
Question Is housing provided?
Answer We will provide local contacts for housing opportunities, but the Times Publishing Co. does not provide housing.
Question When will I hear from you?
Answer If you applied for the positions with a November 1 deadline, you will receive an e-mail by mid-January telling you whether or not you have been hired. If you applied for a position with a February 15 deadline, you will hear by early April.
