Advice about colleges
You are encouraged to apply to 6 to 8 colleges. Two should be “dream schools” – schools you would love to attend, even if you are unsure about admission or affordability. Three or 4 should be “reach schools” – schools that represent an ambitious goal for you. And 2 should be “for-sure schools” – schools that you are reasonably certain will admit you.

The Barnes Scholarship is designed to help you afford your “dream” and “reach” schools, especially if money is the reason you are hesitant to apply. In the selection of semifinalists, preference will be given to students who are applying to schools outside of Florida.
