The Planner | Your Weekend Entertainment Guide

Under the radar ...

Looking for something out of the ordinary to do this weekend? Here are a few events you may want to check out.

FRIDAY: Honey Island Swamp Band and Beth McKee
Imagine the female love child of Dusty Springfield and Doug Sahm with Dr. John acting as the midwife and you’ll have an idea of what defines Beth McKee and who, with the San Francisco-bred sounds of the Honey Island Swamp Band, rock it.

SATURDAY: Florida Tall Tales
Learn more about Florida through story time. "Putting the Story in History" includes historical stories, tall tales and legends about the history of Florida that include humor, exaggeration and life lessons.

SUNDAY: Sebastian Maniscalco
Sebastian Maniscalco got a huge break when Vince Vaughn asked him to join him on a tour of the country, that tour was filmed and released as Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days and 30 Nights: Hollywood to the Heartland. The rest, as they say, is history.

Here’s your Sneak Peek
at the weekend around Tampa Bay:

ANTHONY BOURDAIN
The Culinary Renaissance man and all-around badass comes to St. Petersburg's Mahaffey Theater on Friday for a speaking engagement. Make your reservations now. We chatted with the man about Florida fare, his last meal and celebrity chefs.

HARRY POTTER
It can’t really be time to say goodbye to Harry Potter, can it? No, actually, it can’t — they’re splitting the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, into two movies. The first one opens this weekend. As we enter the home stretch of Hogwarts, we consider a few new ways to bid farewell to Harry in style, from drinking Pumpkin Juice to hitting the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

DIANA ROSS AND THE DEVOLUTION OF THE DIVA
Time was, you could count on a Diva to have immense talent, and an ego to match. But these days, when everyone thinks of themselves as divas, does anyone actually live up to the title? Well, there’s always Diana Ross, who hits Clearwater's Ruth Eckerd Hall on Saturday.
